A secure, escape-proof setup: fennecs dig, climb and bolt through open doors. Many keepers use a fox-proofed room plus a covered outdoor enclosure with buried wire.
Keep them warm — they come from the desert and dislike cold, damp conditions.
Diet
A high-quality meat base with insects, small portions of vegetables and fruit. They need taurine, so choose foods formulated with it or supplement as your vet advises.
Health basics
Watch for dental disease, kidney and liver problems, and obesity. Vaccinate as your exotics vet recommends.
Lifespan
Typically 10-14 years in captivity.
Beginner tips
Fennecs are nocturnal and vocal and rarely enjoy being held. Litter training is partial at best.
Only buy captive-bred from a licensed breeder, and keep your permit paperwork current.
